Lapwing is one of our signature shepherd’s huts at The Hide — a romantic, adults-only retreat surrounded by wildlife and some rather wonderful views.

At its heart is a cosy king-size nook bed, creating that tucked-away feeling that shepherd’s huts do so well. It’s intimate without feeling cramped, beautifully finished and designed for two people to disappear from the world for a while. With everything you need for a comfortable stay and plenty of warmth for the colder months, Lapwing is a genuine year-round escape.

Outside, a large raised deck looks out across Rutland Water and towards the setting sun. A little further down is your own private area with a wood-fired hot tub, barbecue and fire pit — still enjoying those wonderful views, but tucked away in its own space.

And then there are the birds.

Lyndon Nature Reserve is incredibly close, and at certain times of year the surrounding landscape seems alive with them. You’ll hear the distinctive calls of lapwings, spot woodpeckers amongst the trees and, on many evenings, see our resident barn owl making its way silently across the site.

But perhaps the loveliest time of all is sunset. As the light falls over Rutland Water, the evening chorus builds around you. Take a cocktail onto the deck, light the fire or climb into the hot tub and simply sit for a while. It’s one of those little moments that captures what The Hide is all about.
