Our most spacious shepherd’s hut, with a wood-fired hot tub, sweeping views across Rutland Water and some of the best sunsets at The Hide.

Named after the ospreys that nest nearby at Manton Bay, Osprey is a very special place for two to escape to the countryside.

Inside, it’s unusually spacious for a shepherd’s hut, with a king-size bed with access down both sides, plenty of room to settle in and a beautiful luxury bathroom. It’s warm, comfortable and cosy throughout the year, making Osprey just as lovely for a winter escape as it is for long summer evenings overlooking the water.

Step outside onto the large raised deck and you’ll understand what makes this hut so special. Part of the deck is covered, while the wood-fired hot tub is raised to make the most of the far-reaching views across Rutland Water. Mature trees create a wonderfully private setting, despite everything you’ve come to enjoy being right in front of you.

There’s a fire pit for evenings outside, but our favourite time here is around sunset. Pour a drink, sink into the hot tub or find a spot on the deck and watch the sky change over the water while the evening chorus rises from the surrounding countryside.

The nearby Lyndon Nature Reserve makes this little corner of Rutland incredibly rich in wildlife. Look out for ospreys over the water, woodpeckers amongst the trees and the barn owl that regularly sweeps silently across The Hide at dusk.

Osprey is an adults-only retreat, designed for two — a peaceful, private place for romantic weekends, slow mornings and a little luxury in the wild.
